The University of Arizona Sarver Heart Center, a center of excellence at the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center, invites the public to celebrate the opening of its major new facility at a ceremony on Saturday, Oct. 28, 10:30 a.m. The event will take place at the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center Plaza.

The Center's new facility - built atop a College of Medicine building — is comprised of three floors, adding about 36,400 gross square feet. That brings the total space for the Center, including space elsewhere on the AHSC campus, to about 43,000 gross square feet.

Financed entirely with private donations, the $9.7 million addition will provide teaching and research space, including: a floor for “dry labs” for analyzing computer data and research; a floor of “wet labs” for conducting biochemical and molecular biologic research; a heart disease self-learning area for the public; a new home for “Harvey,” cardiology's computerized teaching mannequin; a state-of-the-art computer learning center; and offices.

The UA Sarver Heart Center brings together more than 100 physicians and scientists who have formed a collaboration to prevent heart disease and stroke - the nation's No. 1 killer.
