Catheterization/Angiogram
The Cardiac Catheterization is a test in which a cardiologist who specializes in this procedure will insert a catheter into the femoral artery in your groin. The catheter then goes through your arterial system up and into the coronary arteries. A contrast dye is injected through the coronary arteries. When injected a series of X-ray motion pictures are taken. These pictures enable the physician to get a clear view of your coronary arteries to see if you irregularities, narrowing or blockage. Visualization of the coronary arteries is called a "coronary angiogram." In addition, pressures are measured in the ends of the chambers of your heart. This test will only be ordered if your doctor deems it necessary.
